huffman travel’s top 3 travel destinations for winter
Whenever I am thinking of a trip, short or complex, I immediately think of calling Huffman Travel. This family-owned, boutique travel agency has been delivering impeccable service for over 20 years and I love to hear about their latest hotel favorites, insider access, or simply benefit from their extra amenities everywhere I travel. Below, I have asked my friend Shawna Huffman Owen to compile a few ideas to warm up our winter!
SAND: ST BARTHS, CARIBBEAN
St Barths is magical. Once you land on this small French island, you immediately feel more glamorous, more relaxed, more you! I love starting my day with a private surf lesson at Lorient Beach, relax on the beach or at the spa at Eden Rock, enjoy a late lunch toes in the sand) at Shellona , shop in Gustavia (Lolita Jacca, la pouoette st Barth - the original, Clic and Popie’s are some of my favs), and dine at Bonito or Tamarin. Where should you stay? There’s no wrong answer on St Barths but as soon as we speak, I’ll know which hotel’s personality is right for you and your trip. Or maybe you’ll find that a private home tucked away on the hills is what you’re comfortable with this year – here again, a lot of stunning homes to choose from. And from hiking to snorkeling or helicoptering over to Nevis for golf, there’s plenty to spice up your vacation!
Why it is safe: The islands of the Caribbean have been very proactive in scanning arrivals and shut down their entry points soon enough that they have remained very safe throughout.
SNOW: BRUSH CREEK RANCH, WY
You deserve a private mountain to ski, no less – and that’s the ultimate luxury that Brush Creek Ranch offers. The pristine, snow-covered landscapes of Wyoming are the perfect background for romantic and family vacations: Enjoy plentiful activities, attentive service, and the ultimate pampering at for a dinner date at the Cheyenne Club with tasting menu and beautiful wine pairings. After years of working with the ranch, we know the best cabins, the must-dos, and have negotiated special amenities for you.
Why it is safe: Brush Creek Ranch is a bubble resort in the middle of the wide-open spaces of Wyoming. No sharing required on these 30,000 secluded acres!
Sun: cabo, mexico
Cabo keeps on reinventing itself and it such an easy destination to visit during the winter. Most of the beaches are not swimmable but it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy long walks in the sand before sunset or go out on a sailboat or speedboat to see whales cruise by. Golf is a big deal in Cabo and several resorts have their private courses like at the new Montage Los Cabos or the celebrated One & Only Palmilla. With new openings every year (Zadun and Four Seasons really made a mark last year and Aman on the horizon), you can bet that every hotel is on top of its game. So, with floating bars in the pool, mega mansions for family reunions, and celebrity-chef dining, what’s not to love about Cabo?
Why it is safe: As a country relying heavily on tourism, Mexico has been very proactive at keeping guests safe within its luxury resorts and safety protocols are second to none.
